This knowledgeable guide will teach you how to install laminate flooring as a pattern. Print it and follow it by following the manufacturer's
installation instructions you received with your new laminate lot. Calm down.
Before having a caveman with your laminate flooring installation, you must
allow the planks to acclimatize into the room for at least 72 hours. This is
because laminate floor coverings can expand and contract depending on the
humidity levels in the room.
The last thing you want is for the floor covering to enlarge
or shrink significantly after installation. This could lead to separation or
warping of the blades. Use the acclimation time to unpack the boards and
inspect the product. Look for defects such as peeling, cracking, warping or breaking
of tabs and grooves. It is always a good idea to order 5 to 10% more than the
square footage needed to take into account damaged planks, waste and spare
parts for future repairs.
Tip - Use the acclimatization period to mix planks from
different boxes to give you the best visual effect, eg. If you use 10 boxes,
divide the contents of each box randomly onto 5 separate batteries. Destroy the
old floor - whether it's carpets, tiles or hardwood planks, you have to go to
the bare subfloor. With the old torn floor, use the bubble level or a right
dashboard to make sure the subfloor is level. Any high or low point will cause
unnecessary stress on the boards and cause potential damage, so you will need
to sort them out.
For a floating floor (a floor that does not need to be
nailed or bonded as a laminate flooring), any difference in height must not
exceed one-quarter inch more over a length of eight feet from the floor. If the
ground needs to be leveled, you can apply a self-leveling mortar to fill these
low spots. With the torn floor and the ghetto-like place, it's the best time to
do any painting or other work, so you do not need to worry about doing this.
